Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today said the present government would work to further accelerate the pace of ‘non-stop Haryana’.

Congratulating Harvinder Kalyan on his election as the Speaker, he said the Opposition would also play an important role in this effort. "Suggestions from the Opposition that serve the public interest are always welcome, and we will make every possible effort to meet the expectations, hopes, and aspirations of the people," he added.

More women members matter of pride

In the 14th Vidhan Sabha, nine women were elected. It is a matter of pride that this number has now increased by one and a half times, with 13 women members in the current Assembly.

The Chief Minister praised Kalyan’s extensive experience, distinctive working style, and admirable personal qualities such as humility and discretion. He expressed confidence that Kalyan would elevate the dignity of the Speaker’s post to new heights. He said he had been elected to the Assembly for the third consecutive time and possesses vast experience in political and social life. Over the past decade, he has diligently contributed to legislative work through his involvement in numerous parliamentary committees.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the newly elected Speaker would efficiently and impartially conduct the proceedings of the House, further strengthening democratic traditions. "As Speaker, he will set new benchmarks at every step," he said, urging all members to prioritise the public interest and the state’s welfare in their thoughts, words and actions.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks during the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha, the Chief Minister recalled, "The Prime Minister saidwe did not wish to move forward merely on the strength of numbers but by taking everyone into confidence." He said this principle would serve as an ideal and guiding motto for every session of the House.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively with all members, both from the ruling party and the Opposition.

Saini highlighted that of the 90 members in the 15th Vidhan Sabha, 40 have been elected for the first time. The new members will have much to learn from the experience of senior members, while the seasoned members will, in turn, draw inspiration from the energy and enthusiasm of the newcomers. He emphasised the importance of providing first-time MLAs with ample opportunities to speak and contribute meaningfully to discussions.
