Students mesmerise audience at Unifest in Rohtak
Students from various colleges and universities captivated the audience with their powerful performances on the first day of 43rd Inter Zonal Youth Festival ‘Unifest-2024’ that began on the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) campus here on Monday.
Folk dances, group singing and classical music performances were the highlights of the first day, wherein, students showcased their dance and musical talents with traditional instruments, creating an enthralling atmosphere. Scintillating music and dance performance by the students of the Centre for Disability Students also impressed the audiences.
About 2,000 students from 40 affiliated colleges and university teaching departments are taking part in the three-day mega event that will conclude on November 20 with the prize distribution ceremony, wherein, Education Minister Mahipal Dhandha will facilitate the winning participants, said Prof Randeep Rana, Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), MDU, and Convener of the Unifest.
Rana said the literary-cultural mega event got to a good start with presentations of music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literary creative expressions by the participating students of the affiliated colleges.
Dr Sharanjeet Kaur, Chairperson of the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony while the MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh presided over the function. Entrepreneur and philanthropist Rajesh Jain was also present as the guest of honour on the occasion.
Pratap Rathee, Director, Youth Welfare, MDU, delivered the welcome address and Prof Divya Malhan, organising secretary, gave the vote of thanks while the stage was conducted jointly by Dr Aarti Chahal and Dr Ravi Prabhat.
Prof Rana said skit Haryanvi, solo dance, one act play, mimicry, folk song, poetic recitation, poster making and elocution events would be organised on the second day on Tuesday.
MDU Dean (Academic Affairs) Prof AS Maan, Registrar Prof Gulshan Lal Taneja, senior university functionaries, head of departments, directors of institutes, principals of affiliated colleges, faculty members, conveners and members of various organising committees, university officials, participating team conveners and team members graced the opening ceremony.
