Students enthral audience at youth fests in Rohtak, Rewari
Students of various colleges presented cultural performances at Zonal Youth Festivals at Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government College in Rohtak and Indira Gandhi University (IGU) in Rewari on Friday.
In Rohtak, various events, including qawwali, folk dance group, quiz, western song (solo and group), photography and rangoli, were organised, said Prof Surendra Sangwan, convener of the organising committee.
Dr Jagbir Rathi, a renowned artiste and retired Director (Youth Welfare) at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, presented his famous song ‘Bol tere mithe-mithe’ as well as other songs on the occasion.
Another renowned artiste Harvinder Malik was the guest of honour. Malik motivated students to participate in such events, saying: “Events like youth festival not only promote culture, but also provide a stage to the students for showcasing their talent and boost their confidence.” Students other than the participants also presented dance, songs and poetry. Nitesh, Prince, Anu and Nisha performed dance, while Harsh Mudgil and Shubh Malik sang songs. Similary, Manjeet recited Haryana poetry. The stage was conducted by Prof Ekta.
In Rewari, the youth festival ‘Hindola’ was inaugurated by IGU Vice-Chancellor Prof JP Yadav, while Wing Commander HS Riar and Padma Shri Dr SS Yadav were present as guests of honour.
The Vice-Chancellor and other guests also released a book, “The work of Manju Kapur: A Critical Exploration” written by Dr Reena Yadav, Professor at English Department in Government Girls College, Rewari.
On the second day of the festival on Friday, students showcased their talent in classical dance, mimicry, one-act plays, group song (Indian and Haryanvi), Haryanvi solo dance, debate (Hindi and English), Qui, street play, poster-making, on-the-spot photography and installation competitions.
