Stray dog found eating human flesh at Sirsa Civil Hospital, probe ordered
In a shocking incident, a stray dog was spotted eating human flesh on the premises of the Civil Hospital in Sirsa.
The sight left visitors horrified and triggered widespread anger against the hospital administration. Civil Surgeon MK Bhadu took immediate cognisance of the matter and ordered a detailed investigation, terming the incident as "deeply disturbing".
Eyewitnesses reported that the dog was seen tearing and consuming human flesh within the hospital compound on Wednesday afternoon. Visitors blamed the hospital staff for negligence, raising questions about the handling of biomedical waste. “The dog likely retrieved the flesh from waste material,” said Civil Surgeon Bhadu during his preliminary remarks.
Concerns about biomedical waste management
The incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital’s waste management protocols and overall safety. Expressing discontent, visitors said such negligence undermined trust in public healthcare facilities. However, the hospital administration has pledged to tighten waste disposal procedures and improve security measures to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
A committee has been formed to probe the incident. CCTV footage will also be reviewed to identify those responsible. The committee is expected to submit its findings soon.
Bhadu emphasised that the biomedical waste disposal process would be scrutinised, including the performance of the contracted waste management company. "If any lapse is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible, whether it’s the company or hospital staff," the Civil Surgeon assured.
The hospital's biomedical waste is stored for 24 hours before being collected by a waste disposal company. Initial findings indicate that improper handling of this waste could have allowed the stray dog access to human tissue.
Despite efforts to secure the hospital, such as raising the boundary walls, the large premises make it challenging to prevent stray animals from entering. Security guards and staff will be questioned about their roles in the incident.
