Stop corruption or leave Gurugram by Diwali, Rao Narbir warns officials

Blaming rampant corruption among officials as one of the key reasons behind Gurugram’s civic mess, Cabinet Minister and Badshahpur MLA Rao Narbir has issued an ultimatum to all allegedly corrupt officials to mend ways or get transferred from Gurugram till Diwali.

The legislator, who is waiting for his portfolio, held a meeting with representatives of the police, administration, civic bodies and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

Enraged over the poor state of infrastructure in the Millennium City, Narbir said, “You have time till Diwali. Call your ‘Aakas’ (God fathers) and get yourselves transferred from here as I will not let anybody take bribes here.”

“Gurugram has turned into a golden goose for every corrupt official, but now Narbir has arrived on scene and I will not let anybody do this. Work properly to set the city right or feel free to leave,” said Narbir in the meeting. He also asked the officials who currently have dual charges of districts to opt for one to improve efficiency.

Though portfolios are yet to be announced, according to the sources, Rao Narbir has cited his ‘successful’ experience and sought portfolios like PWD, ULB and Excise and Taxation.

He, however, in an exclusive conversation with The Tribune said he had made no specific request. “I am here to serve people, and improving Gurugram is my priority. Give me any portfolio, I will work from there. The decision will be taken by the party high command and I am among my people and setting things right for them in my district,” he said.

He is currently undertaking an on-ground survey of the city — identifying damaged roads, encroachments and points vulnerable to unauthorised dumping of garbage. He has also scheduled meetings with departments concerned and asked people to share their woes with his team or through social media by tagging him.
