State Election Commissioner reviews MC election preparations
State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh on Thursday reviewed the preparations for upcoming municipal elections and directed district officials to set up special ‘pink booths’ for women voters. In a meeting held today, Singh stressed the need for transparency in the preparation of voters’ lists and the establishment of new polling stations.
He said only voters listed in the assembly elections register would be included in the municipal election voter lists. He urged voters whose names are not yet in the assembly list to first register through the ongoing revision campaign. The Commissioner urged eligible youth to register.
The elections, scheduled for the Gurugram and Manesar Municipal Corporations as well as the Pataudi and Farukhnagar Municipal Councils, would be based on the revised voter lists. Singh added efforts should be made to establish all polling stations in government buildings, with special provisions for communities such as SC categories requesting dedicated booths.
Regarding election logistics, Singh gave clear directions for the procurement and maintenance of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and called for proper law and order arrangements with support from the police department.
District Election Officer and District Magistrate Ajay Kumar noted corrections or updates to the voter list could be submitted until December 23. All claims and objections would be resolved by December 27, with appeals accepted until December 31 and final resolutions issued by January 3, 2025. The revised voter list will be published on January 6, 2025.
