Speaker Kalyan urges youth to join sports
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan emphasised the importance of youth participation in sports, highlighting its role in inculcating discipline and friendship, besides keeping them away from drugs.
Speaking as the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of 74th “Pankha Dangal” wrestling competition held at Ramleela Dangal Ground on Sunday, Kalyan highlighted the cultural significance of traditional sports like wrestling and kabaddi. “Sports is an integral part of our culture. It not only entertains but also instills discipline and promotes a sense of brotherhood,” he said, praising the efforts of Haryana’s wrestlers in bringing global recognition to the state.
The event was organised by Shri Jagdamba Devi Pankha Dangal Committee, which Kalyan commended for its efforts to promote traditional sports.
The Speaker encouraged youth to focus on sports and set meaningful goals for their lives, avoiding drug abuse. “Haryana offers the highest cash prizes for medal-winning athletes in the country. We have also introduced reservation for sportspersons in direct recruitment across categories I to IV and established the Haryana Sports University in Rai,” he said.
During the event, wrestling matches were organised in Kalyan’s presence. Committee president Ramdhwaj Kamboj announced that nearly 350 wrestlers participated in the three-day competition. Pushpinder Navy won the biggest Gurj wrestling match, defeating Nitin Bahadurgarh.
