Sonepat lad wins 10,000-m race in junior athletics meet
On the final day of the 37th Haryana State Junior Athletics Championships-2024, exciting competitions took place at Karna Stadium in Karnal today.
In the 10,000-m boys’ U-20 race, Vansh from Sonepat clinched the first position, Aavkash stood second, and Arun stood third. In the girls’ 3,000-m U-20 race, Preena from Jind secured the first position, while Kajal from Faridabad stood second, and Pragati from Charkhi Dadri stood third.
In the hammer throw event for girls (U-20), Sneha from Jhajjar emerged victorious, while Anjali from Charkhi Dadri and Ankita from Jhajjar secured the second and third positions, respectively. Prateek from Rohtak bagged the top spot in the boys’ hammer throw in the same age group. Hunny from Bhiwani secured the second position, while Kapil from Jhajjar stood third.
In the boys’ U-20 triple jump event, Bhiwani athletes dominated the podium. Tarun Chauhan, Sahil, and Sikander claimed first, second and third positions, respectively.
Tamanna from Fatehabad won the girls’ triple jump. Monika from Fatehabad stood second, and Pratibha from Jhajjar finished in the third spot.
In the 400-m hurdle race for boys (U-20), Tushar Kajla from Jhajjar secured the first position, while Prince Lamba from Bhiwani and Ankit from Hisar were the first and second runner-up, respectively. Among girls, Asha from Jind secured the first position, followed by Shalenshi from Hisar in the second and Saita from Charkhi Dadri in the third positions.
Raman Dagar from Sonepat won the boys’ U-20 200-m race, while Ajay from Karnal and Kailash Singh from Rohtak finished on the second and third positions, respectively.
In the girls’ U-20 200-m event, Karuna from Faridabad claimed the first position, Anjali from Charkhi Dadri was the first runner-up and Sneh from Charkhi Dadri had to settle for the third spot. Nancy from Jhajjar won the U-18 girls’ 200-m race, while Neha from Jind stood second and Aarti from Jhajjar finished on the third position.
The closing ceremony was graced by Sudha Bhasin, District Sports Officer, Karnal, and Rajiv Khatri, vice-president of the Athletics Association of Haryana.
