With less than a month left for the assembly polls, a kisan Mazdoor mahapanchayat will be held jointly by the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), Haryana and the Central Trade Unions in the grain market in Hisar tomorrow. The mahapanchayat is likely to take decisions which could set the narrative for the assembly elections.

The  prominent farmer and trade union leaders including Rakesh Tikait, Jogender Singh Ugrahan, Dr  Darshan Pal, Vijoo Krishnan, P Krishna Prasad, Rajan Ksheer Sagar, Satyawan, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) leader A.R. Sindhu, Inderjit Singh  and other leaders apart from leaders of various farm outfits and workers unions of Haryana will take part in the mahapanchayat.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of upcoming assembly elections. The SKM Haryana has already given a call to oppose what it calls an attempt to `expose and punish' ruling BJP in assembly elections in its state level meeting held in Bhiwani on August 20.

Inderjit Singh informed that the SKM and Trader Unions have taken stock of the announcements made by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini just prior to declaration of election schedule by the Election Commission of India. “BJP is desperately trying to blunt the deep accumulated anger within the peasantry and other working communities as a result of ten year misrule of state and central governments. “But it is evident that a strong wave of anti-incumbency will hit the BJP hard as the people are geared up to teach the ruling regime a lesson,” he said.

He alleged that the Chief Minister called a bluff towards procurement of 24 crops on MSP which is nothing but a deception to mislead the farmers who have been struggling for MSP based on C2+50%  for a long time.

Singh said that various trade unions representing a huge number of workers of the unorganised sector, agricultural labourers and scheme workers have been fighting for so long for minimum wages and regularisation of their jobs. Their plight was miserable due to unprecedented price rise and weakening of MNREGA.
