Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Friday, marking their first meeting since Sisodia’s release from jail in the excise policy case.
“Today, I met the leader who brought a revolution in education. He has emerged from jail after one-and-a-half years, breaking free from the shackles of dictatorship,” Mann said.
Mann emphasised the unity and strength of the party despite what he described as the BJP’s efforts to undermine them. Following their discussion, Mann praised Sisodia’s resilience and predicted a stronger future for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
“Sisodia was subjected to BJP’s dictatorship for about a year and a half, but ultimately, the truth prevails,” he said. He commended Sisodia as a “revolutionary education minister”, noting that the Supreme Court granted him bail due to a lack of evidence against him.
The meeting coincided with AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s birthday. Mann also met Sunita Kejriwal and hinted at the possibility of Kejriwal’s release soon. He asserted that the investigating agencies lacked evidence against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, accusing them of pursuing an agenda to keep AAP leaders imprisoned.
“The BJP tried hard to break the party by imprisoning our leaders, but they failed to undermine our unity. All our leaders must remain united and continue working to strengthen the party,” Mann added. He dismissed rumours of discord within the party, stating, “In the Aam Aadmi Party, we do not undermine each other. We work together as a team.”
Mann further said, “Sisodia has emerged mentally resilient, and Kejriwal will come out of this situation stronger than ever. The future of Indian politics belongs to the Aam Aadmi Party.”
He also criticised the Central Government for withholding funds for Punjab. “The Central Government thinks that by withholding these funds, they can force the Punjab Government to submit. However, we will neither bow down nor beg; we are simply demanding our rightful due, and Punjabis know how to stand up for their rights,” Mann declared.
