Members of Dr Ambedkar Student Council, Haryana, staged a protest and burnt an effigy of Vice-Chancellor Ajmer Singh Malik at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) today. Council members Talwinder Singh, Aman, Sunny, Shravan Dhania, Shivam, Jashan and Prince stated they felt frustrated as the university administration was neglecting their longstanding demands.
The students are seeking various changes, including the naming of a new university building after Jyotiba Phule, installation of a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar and adherence to the UGC rules. They are also demanding the suspension of the recruitment process till the reservation policy is implemented and the cancellation of recent interviews.
Additionally, they want the backlog in SC/BC and EWS recruitment addressed, jobs of contractual faculty regularised and the PhD admission system revised to ensure compliance with the UGC reservation norms.
Janit Kumar Jheel, state vice-president of the council, criticised Vice-Chancellor Malik for failing to address these issues, leading to growing unrest among students. The council has called for Malik’s removal from the position, urging the government to act promptly.
