In the recent Assembly elections, Sirsa district once again recorded the highest voter turnout (75.36 per cent) in the state. Rural voters played a key role in this, with some areas witnessing up to 90 per cent participation. In contrast, urban areas reported lower figures, ranging between 52 and 65 per cent.

Experts suggest that the growing influence of social media has made voters more aware and selective. With constant updates on candidates’ activities, people are better informed and analyse candidates thoroughly before casting their votes.

Similar patterns were observed in other constituencies. For instance, in Sirsa rural areas, polling stations like Phoolkan and Modia Khera reported turnout rates above 85 per cent, while urban Sirsa polling stations lagged with figures between 51 and 53 per cent.

Overall, 7,52,733 out of 10,08,906 registered voters cast their franchise in the district. They includes 4,06,556 male, 3,53,737 female and 12 transgender voters. Despite a slight decrease of 2.24 per cent in polling as compared to the last elections, Sirsa maintained its lead in Haryana, thanks to the robust participation of rural voters.

Among the district’s five constituencies, rural Ellenabad showed the highest engagement, with 84,444 out of 1,03,589 male voters and 73,178 out of 91,955 female voters exercising their right to vote.

Despite the decline in some constituencies, rural voters in Sirsa have shown a strong commitment towards the democratic process, helping the district retain its top position in Haryana’s voter turnout. This trend highlights the crucial role of rural areas in shaping the political landscape of the state.
