Sirsa, July 7
Naik Bhim Singh, a soldier from Ding Mandi village in the district, was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan recently.
This prestigious award recognises his acts of bravery, valour and courageous actions in neutralising terrorists, bringing pride to the district and state.
Singh, who had joined the Army in March 2011, serves in the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles. He is the second soldier from the district to receive the award.
Singh comes from a family involved in farming, with his elder brother continuing the family tradition in their village. His family includes his father Devilal, mother Reshma Devi, wife Monika and two daughters.
The honour was bestowed on him for displaying exemplary courage on December 26, 2022, when he led a combat team in South Kashmir to intercept a group of terrorists based on intelligence reports.
During the operation, as civilians were being evacuated, the terrorists opened fire and threw grenades, injuring an officer. Singh killed a terrorist with precise shooting and evacuated the injured officer. Later, he crawled towards a concealed terrorist position and eliminated another terrorist who attempted to escape after injuring more civilians.
