A shooting incident occurred in Sirsa's Nagarana village, under the Rania police station, just before Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's visit for the ‘Bhumi Poojan’ ceremony of Sirsa medical college.
The attack on a private school van left four people injured, including driver Gurjeet Singh. All victims were taken to the Civil Hospital in Sirsa for treatment. There were about 12 schoolchildren in the van at the time of the shooting, but none of them were injured.
The incident unfolded when Gurjeet Singh, driver of the school van, was transporting children from Nagarana village to Santnagar. As he drove out of the village, Satnam Singh, a local resident, blocked his path with a tractor.
An argument ensued over giving way and soon, Satnam’s son, Pyara Singh, arrived with a weapon in a car. The father-son duo then opened fire on Gurjeet Singh.
When Gurjeet's family members — Sukhdev Singh, Shamsher Singh and Manpreet Singh — rushed to his aid, they were also shot at. The attack left the driver seriously injured, while three others sustained moderate injuries.
After the attack, the assailants attempted to flee in their car, but the CIA team, led by Prem Kumar, acted swiftly. Based on a tip-off, they tracked down and arrested the father-son duo near Tara Baba Kutiya in Sirsa. The police also seized two firearms and the getaway vehicle used in the crime.
According to DSP Adarshdeep Singh, the suspects were trying to escape after ramming their vehicle into a police car. Satnam Singh and Pyara Singh have been taken into custody. The police are working to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the attack.
The conflict between the two families had started around four years ago over a dispute that was later resolved through a local panchayat. However, Satnam Singh apparently revived the old grudge, leading to the violent attack on Thursday morning.
