Seven of extortion gang arrested
A team of the Sonepat police arrested seven persons allegedly involved in demanding extortion on the name of a gangster. The arrested accused have been identified as Sagar, alias Sethi, a resident of Serasa in Sonepat district, Sandeep, a resident of Rajdhana in Sonepat district, Mohit, alias Khokhar, of Kansala village in Rohtak and at present residing in Bahalgarh, Rohit, and Amit, residents of Khewra in Sonepat district, Sagar, resident of Sanauli in Panipat district and now residing in Patel Nagar in Sonepat, and Pankaj resident of Saini Mohalla in Sonepat district, said the police.
The police also seized three country-made pistols, one pipe gun, two live cartridges, and a car used in the crime. They were produced in the court, which granted a four-day police remand for further investigation.
The police official said that on December 1a businessman from Sonepat lodged a complaint at the Kundli police station that he owned a hotel in Kundli, managed alternately by him and his two associates.
On November 14, accused Sagar and Sandeep, along with their eight to 10 associates visited the hotel. They brandished firearms, threatened to kill him, and demanded Rs 4 lakh as extortion money, claiming the amount was intended for Ankit from Serasa, who was in jail at present. The accused forcibly took Rs 43,000 from the complainant. Additionally, they snatched Rs 53,000 from one associate, a resident of Moradabad, and assaulted another associate, taking Rs 2,500. The gang reportedly extorted money from various locations under Ankit’s name by threatening them.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Kundli police station under relevant sections.
The team members led by inspector Ajay Dhankhar apprehended the seven accused, said the police. The arrested seven accused are associated with gangster Ankit Sersa, a sharpshooter and member of Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Ankit was accused in Sidhu Moosewala murder case, said inspector Ajay Dhankar.
