Seven-day international Sarasvati Mahotsav in January
The Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board’s (HSHDB) vice-chairman, Dhuman Singh Kirmach, today said a seven-day ‘International Sarasvati Mahotsav-2025’ will be organised in Pehowa from January 29.
The mahotsav will begin at Adi Badri in Yamunanagar on January 29, and on the same day a Saras fair will be inaugurated at Sarasvati Tirtha, Pehowa. Various seminars and cultural events will be organised during the festival, which will conclude on February 4.
The vice-chairman, along with Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, officials of the HSHDB, Kurukshetra Development Board, Kurukshetra University, and district administration, held a meeting regarding the preparations of the mahotsav on Monday.
Dhuman Singh said, “The scale of celebrations of the mahotsav is being increased every year. This year, a seven-day Saras fair will be organised, along with cultural programmes for which renowned artists and students will be invited. While the inaugural event will be held at Adi Badri, the main events will be organised in Pehowa, Jyotisar, and Brahma Sarovar.”
“There is a plan to organise religious events at all the tirthas, falling on the banks of the river. Efforts are being made to celebrate the Sarasvati Mahotsav on the pattern of the International Gita Mahotsav, for which committees have been formed. It has also been decided to hold a Sarasvati Vandana on the lines of Vaishvik Gita Paath, in which thousands of school students shall participate. Directions have been issued to district education officers to start preparing students for the event,” he added.
The vice-chairman further said that nearly 100 Sarasvati Sewa Samitis had been constituted and a seminar of the representatives of the samitis would be organised. A Sarasvati Sthanam Sammelan will be organised in which the representatives of tirthas situated on the banks of the Sarasvati River from Yamunanagar to Gujarat and scholars will be invited. A three-day seminar at Kurukshetra University and a Sarasvati-yatra from Gajlana village to Pipli in Kurukshetra will also be organised.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh said, “The district administration has started its preparations for which various committees will be formed. Directions have been issued to the officials of the Municipal Committee, Public Health Engineering Department, Public Works Department, Market Committee, Pehowa, and other departments to be prepared for the mahotsav.”
CEO of HSHDB Supravin Kumar, CEO KDB Pankaj Setia, CEO Zila Parishad Ashok Kumar, and Executive Officer of HSHDB Arvind Kaushik were present during the meeting.
