Seeking regular jobs, sanitation workers protest in Bhiwani

Sanitation workers staged a demonstration and handed over a memorandum of their demands to the Deputy Commissioner at the Mini-Secretariat in Bhiwani today.
They gathered at the Mini-Secretariat under the banner of Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh. Addressing the workers, the state secretary of the sangh, Purshottam Danav, alleged that the government was indifferent towards their issues. He alleged that the government had been ignoring their demands for a long time.
Sunita, a leader of the Karamchari Sangh, said their main demands include regularisation of temporary and contractual employees, provision of arrears of equal pay for equal work to the staff, proper cleaning equipment to the employees, plots of 100 sq yards, besides recruitment of sanitation workers in accordance with the population in every town.
Karamchari Sangh’s Bhiwani unit head Suresh said a memorandum of demands had also been submitted to the authorities on February 8. He said if their demands were not met soon, they would intensify their agitation.
