On Saturday, members of the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR), Anil Lathar and Shyam Shukla, inspected school buses at several private schools in the city to ensure compliance with the Safe School Vehicle Policy. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the safety of school transportation for children.

During the inspection, Lathar and Shukla attended a parents-teacher meeting at BR Global School, where they informed the teachers and parents about the school bus safety guidelines. HSCPCR member Anil Lathar emphasised the commission’s dedication to enforcing the Safe School Vehicle Policy across the state to prevent potential accidents involving children. He urged parents to avoid sending their children to school in unsafe vehicles, highlighting that a small cost-saving could put young lives at risk.

As part of the policy check, authorities reviewed the buses for necessary safety measures, including fitness certifications, route permits, insurance, licenses, first aid kits, CCTV cameras, driver uniforms, fire extinguishers, speed governors and emergency helpline numbers. The RTA department issued challans to four buses that were found lacking in these areas.

Shyam Shukla said schools with non-compliant buses were given instructions to address the shortcomings promptly. He added that the RTA and traffic police had been directed to conduct regular checks, while the Education Department was tasked with ensuring policy implementation in all schools within 15 days.

Officials from various departments, including district child protection and fire safety, participated in this initiative, underscoring a collaborative approach to school transportation safety.
