Former Education Minister and Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal is raising local issues during her poll meetings to corner the BJP government over the issue of development. She has accused the saffron party of being biased with Jhajjar during its successive regimes. During her poll meeting at Matnahel village here, the four-time MLA Bhukkal, who is in the fray for the fifth time on the Congress ticket, said the BJP government’s slogan of ‘Sabka Saath- Sabka Vikas’ remained confined merely to papers in the past one decade. It did nothing for the development of Jhajjar district as all four MLAs here were from the Congress party.

“What sort of development the BJP government ensured in Jhajjar in the last 10 years, it can be gauged from the fact that potholes have developed on all roads, parks are in a poor state and roads have turned into ponds even after mild rains here. People are crying for basic amenities but the state government has not paid any heed. Corruption is rampant in the municipal corporation and other government departments. People are compelled to make rounds of government offices for property IDs and PPP,” Bhukkal said.

Interacting with mediapersons, the MLA who is also the chairperson of the Congress manifesto committee, said unemployment, rising crime, inflation, farmers’ plight etc were the prominent issues that had been flagged by the people before the party to incorporate them in its manifesto. The work had reached its final leg hence the manifesto would be released soon after incorporating all vital suggestions of people in it, she added.

On being asked about the revolt and resistance within the BJP after declaration of the first list of its candidates, Bhukkal said the BJP was the party of import and export. It had fielded imported leaders on several seats by ignoring its dedicated workers who had been working for the party for a long time, she added.

Bhukkal claimed that people had made up their mind to bring the Congress back to power to get rid of the BJP regime hence it did not matter who was contesting or not on the BJP ticket.
