Rs 26.73 crore projects to augment water supply in Rohtak villages
Several villages in Rohtak district, including the native village of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and certain villages located in the constituency of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, which have been struggling with lack of clean drinking water and sewerage issues, have got some good news.
The state government has approved development projects worth Rs 26.73 crore to augment water supply and sewerage infrastructure in several villages of the district.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has given administrative approval to the said projects aimed at improving the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Baniyani, Kharenti, Lakhan Majra, Jasia and other villages of Rohtak district.
The approval has been given for the financial year 2024-25 under the Augmentation of Rural Water Supply Programme.
Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa has stated that a new water-storage tank and 1 MLD water treatment plant will be constructed at Baniyani at an estimated cost of Rs 430.26 lakh, and arrangement for pumping raw water from the canal will also be made.
Similar arrangements will be made for pumping raw water from the canal for Kharenti and Lakhan Majra villages in the district.
Bigger tank will ensure enough water
Residents have been suffering due to the lack of potable water. The water-storage tanks at the village waterworks proved insufficient. The construction of a bigger tank would ensure the provision of adequate and clean water for the villagers. — Omparkash Khundia, sarpanch, Baniyani village
The project includes construction of an RCC storage and supply tank at Kharenti village and laying of an internal distribution system. These development works will cost Rs 1084.23 lakh.
Water will also be made available to Jassia, Brahmanwas, Basantpur, Ghilod Kalan, Ghilod Khurd and Kahni villages by pumping raw water from the canal, on which an estimated investment of Rs 1159.13 lakh would be made.
The underlying idea behind the exercise is to augment the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in these villages to ensure better access to essential services for the residents.
"The underground water in our area is brackish and unfit for drinking. Hence, there were numerous complaints regarding the lack of clean drinking water from the residents of Jassia and several nearby villages. I had been pursuing the matter with the state leadership and top authorities. Finally, our efforts have borne fruit and the long struggle of villagers for clean drinking water will be over soon," said Om Prakash Hooda, the sarpanch of Jassia village in the district.
Hooda was felicitated by the sarpanches and other prominent residents of the nearby villages for his efforts in this regard.
Omparkash Khundia, the sarpanch of Baniyani village, also expressed satisfaction on the approval of an amount of Rs 4.30 crore for the construction of a new water-storage tank, water treatment plant and mechanism for pumping raw water from the canal to the village.
"The residents of my village have been suffering a great deal due to the lack of clean drinking water for a long time. The water-storage tanks at the village waterworks proved insufficient. The construction of a new and bigger storage tank would ensure the provision of adequate and clean drinking water to the villagers," said Khundia.
