Ror community demands two seats from political parties, will explore option
With just three days left for the filing of nomination papers, the Ror community, which has a sizable number in Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Kaithal, Jind and Sonipat districts, raised a demand of two tickets from BJP and Congress in forthcoming assembly elections. This was decided during a meeting at the Ror Dharamshala on Monday.
They have also decided to extend support to the political party which would give two tickets to their community.
“We have demanded two seats from BJP and Congress — one of Assandh and another of Pundri as these constituencies have a significant number of votes from the Ror community. We will support the party which will give tickets to community members at Assandh and Pundri segments,” said the president of Akhil Bhartiya Ror Mahasabha, Nasib Singh Karsa.
He added, “We have a large vote bank in Assandh and Pundri and we expect political parties to respect our strength by giving us two seats.”
He and other leaders warned that if their demands were not met, a panchayat of the community members would be organised in the coming days to decide their course of action. He said it could involve either supporting a different political party or fielding independent candidates from their community.
