Rohtak PGIMS docs save life by removing knife from patient’s heart

A team of doctors at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, today saved the life of a 26-year-old man by removing a knife from his heart.

The patient, belonging to Sonepat district, was brought to the PGIMS Trauma Centre after being stabbed in the chest, following a scuffle. The knife had pierced the heart and was lodged deep inside, said sources.

“The patient was in a critical condition when he was brought to the PGIMS. Our team, led by Dr Shamsher Singh Lohchab, swung into action and performed a complex surgery to remove the knife,” said Dr Sandeep Singh, Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, PGIMS.

He maintained that the operation, which lasted over three hours, was a challenging task due to the knife’s proximity to vital organs.

“We had to carefully repair the damaged heart tissue and lungs to prevent excessive bleeding. The patient is now recovering well and is expected to be discharged soon,” said Dr Lohchab, who is also the Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak.

The family members of the patient have expressed their gratitude to Dr Lohchab and his team for saving his life.
