The Western Yamuna Canal railway underpass stretch has become a nightmare for commuters due to potholes and poor drainage. Commuters using this route complain of a bumpy ride and say it remains waterlogged during rainfall.

Residents said despite being part of the Western bypass, the route has fallen into a state of neglect. Many blame poor drainage system for the road's deterioration.

Davinder Sachdeva, a retired employee who is a resident of Karnal city, has raised the issue with the district authorities. He has submitted a formal complaint, in which he has accused the Public Works Department (PWD) of negligence in taking care of this underpass. He stated that due to the poor drainage system, the underpass remained flooded during rains. “Despite multiple attempts to draw attention the attention of the authorities towards the crumbling state of the road, no corrective action has been taken so far,” said Sachdeva.

“It is disappointing that such an important stretch has been left in such a poor state. We hope the district administration intervenes soon,” said Sachdeva.

Vikas Kumar, another local resident, said that the road stretch had turned into an accident-prone area. “We want the authorities to take steps to ensure a smooth ride for commuters on the road,” he said.

Vijay Kumar, another resident, said, “The road is in such a bad shape that people avoid it altogether during heavy rain. The authorities need to act fast before any major accident takes place.”

Sandeep Singh, Executive Engineer, PWD, said that they had conducted a patchwork of the stretch. He claimed that work had been allotted for the strengthening of the patch. “We have allotted work for strengthening the stretch and ensuring proper drainage,” he said.
