Rewari, Ateli in focus as scions of Ahir stalwarts lock horns in close race
The Rewari and Ateli Assembly seats, two of the seven constituencies in the Ahirwal region spanning the Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, have garnered significant attention as two political stalwarts — Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh and Congress OBC department national president Capt Ajay Singh Yadav — battle for prestige in these closely contested elections.
A neck-and-neck race is unfolding on both seats. In Ateli (Mahendragarh), Arti Singh Rao, daughter of Rao Inderjit Singh, is contesting her first election, while in Rewari, outgoing MLA Chiranjeev Rao, son of Capt Ajay Yadav, is seeking re-election.
In Rewari, BJP candidate and outgoing Kosli MLA Laxman Singh Yadav is mounting a strong challenge against Chiranjeev. The intense competition on this seat has political observers keenly monitoring the results. “The victory margin is likely to be narrow, similar to the 2019 Assembly elections, as both candidates have contested the election in a well-planned manner. With AAP’s Satish Yadav and Independent candidate Prashant Sunny Yadav also in the fray, this contest could go either way,” said JP Yadav, a retired government officer.
Political observer Naresh Chauhan noted that anti-incumbency sentiments, local issues, and disunity within the BJP’s local leadership could play a decisive role in the Rewari outcome. “The contest is fascinating, and the results here could have a broader impact on state politics, especially as Rewari is considered the ‘London of Ahirwal,’” he added.
In Ateli, Arti Singh Rao faces a stiff challenge from BSP candidate Thakur Attar Lal and Congress’s Anita Yadav. BJP heavyweights Rao Inderjit Singh and Ram Bilas Sharma have left no stone unturned in drumming up support for Arti, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath even making an appearance to campaign on her behalf.
Arti remains confident in her prospects, stating, “With the blessings of the people, I am going to win the election. The booth agent reports are encouraging, and I am committed to ensuring the holistic development of Ateli.”
