In an exercise launched by the Health Department in Gurugram district, government doctors and para-medical staff members are explaining the importance of voting along with various health programmes being organised to create social awareness regarding non-communicable diseases.

A Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme has also been initiated by the district administration on the directions of the Election Commission to impress upon the eligible voters to go out of their homes coming October 5 and vote for the state Assembly elections.

The Chief Medical Officer of Gurugram, Dr Virender Yadav, said the awareness campaign would be carried out till September 20 and would cover all sub-divisions.

Yadav said doctors, nurses and other employees of the Health Department must exercise their franchise on polling day. “I know doctors and nurses have pressure of work but they have to make arrangements to exercise their franchise without fail,” he said.

Yadav shed light on diseases that were not caused by infection ie non-communicable diseases, including cancer, heart diseases, high blood pressure, paralysis, diabetes etc. A cleanliness drive was also carried out in Heli Mandi in Pataudi on Wednesday.

Yadav said girl students of Government School, Kadipur, were made aware about cervical and breast cancer. The students of Government School, Farrukhnagar, took out a bicycle rally as a part of the awareness campaign. Officials taught Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) technique to children.
