Congress candidate Renu Bala has emerged victorious in the Sadhaura Assembly constituency of Yamunanagar for the second consecutive time.
She defeated BJP candidate Balwant Singh by securing 57,248 votes. Balwant Singh bagged 55,608 votes and the INLD-BSP candidate, Brijpal Chhappar, stood third with 53,388 votes.
Sitting MLA Renu Bala was elected for the first time from this reserved Sadhaura Assembly constituency of Yamunanagar on Congress ticket in 2019. She defeated BJP leader and three-time MLA Balwant Singh.
This year, in Yamunanagar district, the highest 78.65 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the reserved Sadhaura Assembly constituency. As many as 1,73,503 voters cast their vote in this Assembly seat.
However, in the Assembly elections of 2019, a 77.79-per cent turnout has been recorded in Sadhaura Assembly seat.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Capt Manoj Kumar said that there were a total of 9,06,271 voters in Yamunanagar district this time. He said the Sadhaura Assembly constituency had 2,20,596 voters.
Renu Bala entered into politics by contesting the Zila Parishad elections in 2016.
She became a member of the Zila Parishad and was elected chairperson on May 4, 2016. Later, she became MLA from Sadhaura Assembly constituency in the 2019 Assembly election and she resigned from the post of chairperson and membership of Zila Parishad after becoming an MLA.
“The voters of Sadhaura Assembly constituency have given me a chance of serving the people of the area again by electing me an MLA second time in a row. I am very thankful to them. I will try harder than before for the development of my constituency,” said Renu.
