The District Civil Hospital is facing criticism once again, this time due to a rat sighting in the ICU of its newly established trauma centre. A viral video showing the rat scurrying across the ICU has raised concerns over hygiene and patients’ safety.

Relatives of patients being treated in the ICU have reported frequent rat sightings, with some even jumping on patients and their attendants during the night, causing distress.

In addition to the rat issue, families of patients have also raised concerns about the behaviour of the ICU staff. They claimed that when they requested the removal of drips at night, the staff initially ignored their requests and responded rudely when asked again.

Civil Surgeon Dr Mahender Singh Bhadu confirmed that he was aware of the rat issue and had assigned RMO Dr Dahiya to handle the matter. He suggested that the rats might have entered the ICU when the staff or patients moved in or out. Dr Bhadu emphasised that the hospital staff was instructed to be vigilant and prevent animals from entering the facility.

The CMO also said if there were complaints regarding staff misconduct, appropriate action would be taken and training sessions to improve patient care and staff behaviour were being conducted regularly.

Notably, just two weeks ago, a shocking video emerged showing stray dogs feeding on human remains within the Civil Hospital premises. While the controversy had not yet subsided, another troubling video has now surfaced, this time showing a rat scurrying through the ICU of the newly established trauma centre, further escalating the hospital administration's troubles.
