Protests against Agnipath scheme in Haryana's Palwal, Hodal, Ballabgarh
Palwal, Faridabad, June 20
Protests were held against the Agnipath scheme at Agra Chowk at Palwal on Monday.
Protesters resorted to stone-pelting. Heavy police force was rushed to the spot. Damage to a police vehicle was reported.
There was a similar protest at Hodal for two hours.
Meanwhile, over 1,000 people have been booked for violence in Palwal dstrict. The police have registered three FIRs for the violence that took place during the protests against the scheme on Sunday.
While two FIRs have been registered in Palwal sub-division, the third was registered in Hodal sub-division.
A police spokesperson said 80 youths had been booked by name, and 950 others were being identified.
A police official said the identification of all the accused from the video clippings and CCTV footage was being done.
Incidents of violence and traffic blockade had taken place at three different spots – two in Palwal and one at Hodal – which led to damage to several vehicles and injuries to many people, including the cops.
The DC’s residence and cops were pelted with stones. The police resorted to lathicharge that resulted in injuries to many protesters.
Police are keeping a tight vigil. Internet services will remain suspended till 4pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, some youths resorted to stone-pelting near Anaj Mandi in Ballabgarh on Monday morning in protest against the scheme. Several protesters were rounded up, said the police, adding that the traffic was restored.
