Kurukshetra, August 4
A delegation of contractual teachers from Kurukshetra University, under the banner of Haryana University Contractual Teachers’ Association (HUCTA), submitted a memorandum demanding the regularisation of their jobs before August 15 to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday in Kurukshetra.
Got partial relief
There are nearly 1,500 contractual assistant professors working in 15 universities of the state. The government has given partial relief to the contractual staff by halting the process of fresh recruitment in universities, but the demand for regular jobs is yet to be fulfilled. The government should prepare a policy to regularise their jobs. — Vijay Malik, HUCTA President
The teachers said in the absence of job security and increment in salary, a sense of disappointment had prevailed among the contractual employees. The government must consider the demands of the contractual staff sympathetically and regularise their jobs. This would boost confidence of the teachers, they said.
Along with the CM, the teachers met various ministers and BJP leaders who had reached here to attend a rally.
Vijay Malik, state presiden of HUCTA, said, “There are nearly 1,500 contractual assistant professors working in 15 universities of the state for two to 15 years. The government has given partial relief to the contractual teachers by halting the process of fresh recruitment in universities, but the demand for regular jobs is yet to be fulfilled. The government should prepare a policy to regularise their jobs.”
The official said, “The association has raised the demand with the CM and other ministers of the state government. The CM has said a high-level committee has been formed to frame a policy, and as soon as the policy is ready, it will be announced and implemented, before the Assembly election. All the rules have been followed in the appointment of teachers selected on contract. Only those applicants have been appointed who fulfil the criteria of the UGC. We request the government to consider the requests of the professors.”
“If the jobs of the contractual teachers are regularised, we will also support the government but if the demand is not accepted, the association will be forced to launch an agitation,” Malik added.
