Thirty minutes of heavy downpour that lashed the city this noon resulted in heavy waterlogging in several areas, resulting in the disruption of traffic at many places. This also led to power outages in some parts of the city and the district.

A majority of residential areas, including urban sectors and colonies, were affected by waterlogging. Moreover, an adverse impact was observed on the movement of traffic as vehicles had to wade through two to three feet of water on internal roads of the district.

“I had to drive slowly and carefully as there was over two feet of water on the main road in Sector 9 here,” said Varun Sheokand, a local resident. He said traffic snarls surfaced at many places on his way to NIT.

Reports of rainwater accumulating in many of the localities of the densely populated colonies located in all three zones of Old Faridabad, NIT and Ballabgarh in the city and the dividing roads of various sectors also surfaced. Not only this, rainwater entered several houses and shops in the low-lying areas of NIT and Ballabgarh subdivisions, mainly due to poor drainage and choked sewage system, said Vishnu Goel, a resident. He added that vehicles, especially two-wheelers became a victim of breakdown due to the waterlogged passages in the NIT area.

Power supply in some of the colonies and residential pockets also remained affected for over an hour or more due to local breakdowns caused by the rain, an employee of the Power Department said.
