Posters and stickers pasted on government properties and intersections at various places are not only giving an ugly look to Rohtak city but also raising a question mark over the authorities’ efforts to check defacement.

The locals have demanded the authorities to take strict action against those involved in the act. The issue was prominently flagged by local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. “The main gate of the Mansarovar Park in Rohtak has been beautified by using marble but it is getting defaced due to posters and stickers pasted there. Be it Mansarovar Park or Double Park, their beautification has been completely marred by the posters,” claimed Batra. “The walls and gates of government colleges are also dotted with posters and stickers. Even the places where statues of great men have been installed have not been spared,” he rued.

The MLA said posters and stickers could be seen everywhere, even above and below the elevated bridges of the city. “Such a situation did not happen in a day, these posters and stickers have been there for years and increased with each passing day. The authorities were not paying any heed. This is also in complete violation of the government’s Swachh Haryana Swachh Bharat slogan, he added.

“The government should issue instructions that the name and number of the printer must be mentioned on the posters or stickers. The government should not only issue a warning in this regard but also fix a fine It is unfortunate that no action is being taken against those pasting them,” Batra maintained. Meanwhile, Deepak Rathi, a social activist, said the municipal authorities should launch a special drive to remove posters and stickers from government properties to maintain the aesthetics of the city. Dharmendra Singh, Commissioner, Rohtak Municipal Corporation, said teams had been formed for removal of posters and stickers from public properties in the city.
