Member of Parliament (MP) Deepender Hooda, while commenting on the results of the Assembly elections, said these were unexpected and the Congress party was carrying out an in-depth analysis of these.

Deepender, accompanied by the Congress MLA and former minister Geeta Bhukka,l was interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a Dasehra function in Jhajjar on Saturday. It was his first visit to Jhajjar after the Assembly results were declared.

“The poll results have left everyone stunned as there was a visible wave in favour of the Congress party. We have received complaints from the candidates of around 20 Assembly constituencies across the state about the electronic voting machines (EVMs). Moreover, questions are being raised over the polling process,” said Deepender who extensively campaigned for the Congress candidate across the state in the Assembly polls.

The MP pointed out that the Congress had approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) and also submitted its representation on the complaints about the EVMs and poll process. “We are waiting for the ECI’s reply in this respect to take further action,” he added.

Deepender said in the counting of ballot papers, the Congress has won 76 out of 90 seats. Moreover, all surveys of media houses and ground reports were clearly indicating that the Congress had a considerable edge in the Assembly polls and it was coming back to power in the state, he added.

“Despite the deception of the BJP, the Congress party has got votes almost equal to that of the saffron party. Whatever role the people have given us in the elections, we will play it effectively. The Congress will keep flagging the public issues prominently to mount pressure on the government for getting them resolved,” said the MP. Deepender expressed gratitude to the people of the state for supporting and voting for the Congress in the Assembly polls.

Senior Congress leader Geeta Bhukkal clinched her fifth victory from Jhajjar (Reserve) this time. Her journey of electoral battle started in 2005 when she won her debut Assembly polls from Kalayat (Kaithal). Later, Bhukkal shifted to Jhajjar (Reserve) and clinched second poll battle in 2009 and became Education Minister in the then Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Thereafter, she won the next three elections in 2014, 2019 and 2024 in a row. Bhukkal is known for her oratory skills, courteous nature and flagging public issues prominently in the Vidhan Sabha.
