Police push for community support in campaign against drug abuse in Sirsa
The Sirsa police, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Bhushan, is intensifying its fight against drug abuse, emphasising the participation of the public. Addressing a gathering of sarpanches, community leaders, and social organisations at the CDLU auditorium, Bhushan urged the need for a collective movement to eradicate drug use.
After the event, Bhushan led a rally in major city areas, including Parshuram Chowk, Bhagat Singh Chowk, and Patel Chowk, to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Addressing the gathering, he called drug addiction “curse” for a healthy society, urging everyone to take responsibility in eradicating the menace. “We will succeed only when each of us vows not to consume or allow others to consume drugs,” Bhushan said.
Bhushan highlighted that the police were engaging the district’s youth in sports activities to steer them away from drugs. Four police teams were visiting villages every morning and evening, promoting sports as a healthier alternative, and the results were encouraging, he said.
So far, 119 villages and four city wards in Sirsa had been declared drug-free, thanks to the combined efforts of village panchayats and the public, he said. Bhushan called upon social and religious organisations to join the fight, aiming to turn the anti-drug campaign into a large-scale social movement.
