Residents of the ‘Textile City’ will get a new maternal and child health (mch) wing in the beginning of 2025. However, the project was delayed for over 18 months, but now the works, including civil and electrical, are going on at full pace.

As per officials of the PWD B&R 90 per cent work of the project is complete so far. Now, the work of the MCH wing is likely to be completed in January 2025.The construction agency had to complete the project in June 2023 but it missed the primary deadline and got the deadline enhanced three times.

Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced the construction of an advanced MCH wing on the General Hospital premises during the budget session in 2018 during the first tenure of the BJP government.

After getting all administrative and financial approval, the PWD B&R Department allotted the tender for the construction of the eight storied MCH wing in June 2021 and the deadline was fixed for the completion of work up to June 2023, but it had missed the first deadline as the work was not complete, the sources added.

Then the department got the permission for enhancement of the deadline up to December 2023, but it again missed it, the sources added. After that the department had sought another expansion for completion of the work and got a time up to December 2024. But still, the work is not complete.

However, the officials of the PWD Department claimed that the work of the building was about to be complete as 90 per cent of the work had been completed and most probably the project would be completed in January 2025.

As per the available information, the MCH wing will be of 100 beds and have advanced facilities. As per the sources, there will be 20 delivery tables in the MCH wing, Gynae OPD, child OPD, special neonatal care unit (SNCU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and an operation theatre will be developed in the MCH wing.

All treatment facilities for the mothers and children will be under one roof, the officer added.

Dr Jayant Ahuja, Civil Surgeon said the MCH wing was likely to be complete in the beginning of 2025.“A meeting with all stakeholders about furniture, equipment was held on Monday and all have been directed to speed-up the pending work at the earliest so the better health facility is provided to the residents,” said Dr Ahuja.

Apart from this, requirements of the medical and paramedical staff as per the norms of the MCH wing were also sent to the government, he said.

At present, the General Hospital has 200 beds but after starting the MCH wing, the health facilities will be strengthened and the hospital will have a facility of 300 beds, the Civil Surgeon said.

The completion of the MCH wing is going at full pace and almost 90 per cent of civil and wooden work has been completed and electricity work is also going on in full swing, said Praveen Chhikkara, SDO, PWD B&R.

However, the final cost will be calculated after completion of the work but approximately the civil work of this eight-storied building is around Rs 29 crore, the SDO said.
