Enraged at the decision taken by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to allow the stilt-plus-4 scheme in the residential sectors during the model code of conduct, members of resident welfare associations (RWAs) of various sectors on Friday and staged a protest at the Estate Office of HSVP in Sector 18 here.

Members alleged that the decision had been taken by the caretaker government under the pressure of builders and the opinion of 268 RWAs was being ignored. RWA members from Sector 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 24, Sector 25(II) and Sector 29(I) and (II) led by Baljeet Singh, convener, Haryana Sectors’ Confederation, raised slogans against HSVP officials as well as against the BJP government. Baljeet said while the government had misled the residents by giving the permission for S+4, HSVP had also misled the High Court.

“Yashvir Malik, Chairman of the confederation has also filed a complaint to the Election Commission of India and Chief Election Officer, Haryana, about the permission for the S+4 scheme during the elections,” he asserted.

“The protest started at the EO office at 9 am and ended at 11.30 am, but no official met them. We submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent,” said Baljeet.

He said sectors had been divided into three separate departments. Some sectors are under HSVP, some under Municipal Corporation while some are being maintained by the HSIIDC.

The protesting RWA members said the residents were forced to face a lot of problems due to the lack of amenities. “No sweeping or garbage collection has been done in sectors for the past one year. Roads are in a bad shape, streetlights are lying non-functional, potable water supply is erratic, heaps of garbage are a common scene in the sectors and there’s no proper management of stormwater drainage,” they alleged, adding that this was despite the fact they were paying all development, water, sewage charges to the authorities regularly.

Residents also accused HSVP officials and not taking any action against encroachment on green belts.
