A jail warden from Panipat was cheated of Rs 5 lakh by two individuals who falsely promised to help his son in a legal case. The victim, Atma Ram, hails from Dhani Mohabatpur village in Adampur, Sirsa, and works as a warden at Panipat Jail. Based on an investigation by the DSP, Ellenabad, the police have registered a case of fraud against the accused.

Atma Ram’s ordeal began in 2020 when his 29-year-old son, Pawan, was arrested in a case filed at the Bhattu Kalan police station in Fatehabad. The arrest left Atma Ram in deep distress. At that time, his brother-in-law, Chhotu Ram, introduced him to Satyawan from Bansra village, Rajasthan. Satyawan claimed he could have Pawan’s name cleared from the case with the help of a contact, Kalu Ram, who allegedly had ties with senior police officials, including the SP of Sirsa.

Atma Ram borrowed Rs 5 lakh and handed it over to Satyawan and Kalu’s father, Gopal, at Kalu’s house in Chaharwala village. Gopal then gave the money to his wife. Satyawan assured Atma Ram that his son would soon be released from jail. However, when no progress was made, Atma Ram confronted Satyawan, who began evading him.
