Palwal, February 16

The district authorities have identified 46 acres at Pelak village for the proposal of setting up the first government medical college in the district, say sources in the Health Department. A survey report of the land has been submitted to the authorities concerned for the formal approval, it is reported.

Land availability report submitted

CMO Dr Naresh Kumar Garg said while the report about the land availability had been submitted to the government, the DMRE was authorised to take up the project after a formal approval.

Prepared by local admn

The report has been prepared by the local administration in response to the move announced by the state government to set up a medical college in all districts, said sources

The report has been prepared by the local administration in response to the move announced by the state government to set up a medical college in all districts, said sources. They said the search for a suitable land had been on for the past about two years. The land identified belongs to the panchayat of Pelak village and lies close to the upcoming interchange of the KGP Expressway on Aligarh Road in the district.

The identification process was carried out by a team consisting of officials and representatives of the Directorate of Medical Research and Education (DMRE) of the state government, Health Department and the District Rural Development and Panchayat Office (DDPO) here.

While the announcement of setting up a government medical college in each of the districts had been made by the CM in 2022, Palwal had been included in the list to have such a facility, said an official on condition of anonymity.

He said the demand in this regard had also been raised by the local and ruling party MLAs from Palwal and Hathin Assembly constituencies at various occasions, including in the state Assembly, last year.

“Though the 100-bedded Civil Hospital in the district is the largest such facility, a large number of patients are referred to medical colleges and hospitals in other districts like Faridabad, Gururam, Nuh and Delhi each year due to the lack of adequate infrastructure and poor treatment facilities in the city and the district,” says Bhagat Singh a resident.

CMO Dr Naresh Kumar Garg said while the report about the land availability had been submitted to the government, the DMRE was authorised to take up the project after a formal approval. Palwal was upgraded as a district in 2008 and the demand for a medical college had been pending for a long time, it is claimed.
