The Gurugram police have arrested a 50-year-old man from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Gurugram in April. The arrested is a habitual offender who used to make small children victims of his lust.
According to the police, the arrested has been identified as Ratan, a resident of Balihari village in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh. He was arrested by a joint team of the crime unit, Sohna, and the Sector 51 women police station on Wednesday morning from Ratlam. He was wanted in two cases of rape. The accused has already served 10 years of imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl from his own village in 2005. He was released from jail in 2015 after serving his sentence.
On April 26, the victim’s mother filed a complaint, stating that she and her husband worked for a contractor who had provided them with a room to live in at Rithoj village. On April 25, another person came to work at the contractor’s place and slept outside their room that night.
“Late in the night, I found my three-year-old daughter missing from the room, and the person sleeping outside the room was also not there. After searching extensively, we found my daughter in an unconscious state about 300 m away from our room, and then we called the police,” she said in her complaint.
Varun Dahiya, ACP, Crime, said injury marks were found on the girl’s body, which indicated that an attempt had been made to rape her. On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered under the POCSO Act at the women police station. A reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for providing information leading to the arrest of the suspect. To arrest the accused, raids were conducted in Gurugram, Delhi, Pune, Jhansi and Ratlam.
“Ratan confessed to raping the three-year-old girl by taking her to a secluded place at night after her parents slept,” said Dahiya. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused was a habitual offender and he was also wanted for sodomising a six-year-old boy in the Chandla area of Madhya Pradesh. After committing the crime, he used to shift base to another city to escape from the police and work as a labourer there for a few days. During this time, he used to search for some child/girl/minor and after committing the crime of rape, he would go to some other city.
