A stretch of road between Sukhpura Chowk and Gohana Stand in old Rohtak town has been inundated due to an overflowing nullah, causing grave inconvenience to residents as well as pedestrians and other passers-by.

The residents complain that the situation has been prevailing in their area for nearly two months, but the authorities concerned have failed to take any concrete action despite repeated requests and reminders.

Whereas the government officials concerned cite shortage of manpower and equipment for the prevailing situation, though they maintain that efforts are on to resolve the crisis.

“The overflowing nullah leads to waterlogging on a stretch of road along Kripal Ashram and Shiv Dharamshala and causes much inconvenience to the residents. The situation has been persisting for a long time and the officials concerned are aware of it, but it is yet to be resolved,” laments Vijay, a shopkeeper.

Rupesh, a resident, rues that even walking on the road or pavements has become difficult due to the constant flooding of the entire area.

Municipal Engineer Tarun Kathuria admits that the situation is bad due to inundation of the said stretch of Gohana road passing through the old town area.

“All efforts are being made to resolve the situation and provide relief to the residents. A team was sent to the affected area today also, but it seems that a bigger action would be required to provide an effective solution. We are working on the matter and it will be resolved soon,” he stated.

Questioned about the reason behind the crisis, Kathuria said an acute shortage of manpower as well as equipment had led to the present situation.

“The tendering process for hiring of sanitation staff has been stayed by the High Court. We are waiting for the stay to be vacated so that more workers can be hired to ensure the maintenance of cleanliness in the city,” said the official.
