Over 55K expected to take part in Panipat Marathon today
After the completion of the electoral marathon, the city is set for ‘Panipat Marathon’ on Sunday.
The district administration claimed that this would be the first mega programme of the newly-elected government and would succeed in recording its name in the Limca Book of Records.
More than 55,000 participants are expected to participate in the marathon and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini would grace the inaugural ceremony, said Deputy Commissioner Virender Kumar Dahiya. The programme would start with the inaugural speech of the Chief Minister.
The Deputy Commissioner added that various social and religious organisations, non-government organisations, private schools, depot holders, market associations, traders’ associations, industrial and other associations would participate in the event.
As many as 500 employees of the Nehru Yuva Kendra and Police Department would participate as volunteers in the marathon. A total of 125 buses have been deployed to bring participants from their villages, Dahiya said.
The event would see participation of 500 VIPs, he claimed. The event would be held under three categories — 21 km, 10 km and 5 km.
DC Dahiya along with SP Lokender Singh reviewed preparations by holding meetings with officials concerned at the venue in Sectors 13/17 today.
ADC and Nodal officer Dr Pankaj said 10 ambulances would be deployed to deal with any untoward situation. Special stalls of various departments would be set up at the event, he added.
A special control room has been established at the venue in the ground of Sectors 13/17 and CCTV cameras have been installed. Twenty welcome gates have been set up and eight big LEDs have been installed for the live display of the event.
Two Olympians, Aman Sehrawat and Navdeep, would also participate in the marathon, he said. People can also get on-the-spot registration done on Sunday morning before the start of the event, for which special registration desks have been established at the venue, the ADC said. Notably, the district administration had organised ‘Panipat Pinkathon’ in 2019, in which over 50,000 women had participated. The event was recorded in the ‘World Book of Records’.
