As many as 46,046 connected consumers in the Faridabad circle of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) are getting power supply despite being defaulters. An amount of Rs 74.14 crore is pending in their names.

The total defaulting amount with connected and disconnected consumers is Rs 207.78 crore in the district, it is revealed.

According to the DHBVN (Power Department) sources, the defaulters, whose supply has not been connected include 37,921 domestic and 2,609 non-domestic consumers. The total number of such connections, categorised as private connections includes 4,526 agricultural connections, 622 LT industrial and 39 as HT industrial ones. The total number of such connections is 45,717 as on July 21, with an outstanding amount of Rs 62.82 crore, according to details prepared by the DHBVN office. Besides these, a total of 329 government departments, including Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, public health, irrigation, HUDA (HSVP) panchayat, police and railway (other) departments enjoy uninterrupted power supply have also failed to clear outstanding bills worth Rs11.42 crore. Litigation, untraced connections and change of address by consumers has led to the development of such a crisis, when power supply to such consumers is still being given, said an official. The supply to the government departments could not be disconnected in view of the urgency of the facilitation of basic amenities and public services, it is claimed. The municipal corporation and public health are among the main defaulters with pending dues of Rs 76.31 lakh and Rs 30.26 lakh, said the officials.

The defaulting amount of the disconnected consumers stands at Rs 133.54 crore. This includes 23,127 domestic, non-domestic, agricultural and industrial connections, which have failed to clear the dues of Rs 133.17 crore. Six connections of the government departments owing an amount of Rs 37.12 lakh stand disconnected.

“The Power Department has disconnected around 23,133 connections whose owners owe an amount of Rs133.53 crore as on date,” said an official. He said though the total defaulting bill amount stood at Rs 207.77 crore, a drive was conducted to recover the pending dues and to check power theft. The district has over 6.20 lakh connections, which include 5.16 lakh domestic and 64,240 non-domestic connections, he said.
