Over 44L students take part in road safety quiz
The All-Haryana Road Safety Quiz Competition-2024 was organised in all schools and colleges across the state with the aim of inculcating a culture of road safety among children. Over 44 lakh students participated in the competition and in spreading the message of road safety.
DGP Shatrujeet Kapur said students were the most powerful medium to create awareness about road safety and traffic rules. Through this quiz, students will not only have become aware of road safety themselves, but will also share important information about following traffic rules with their parents. He said due to lack of information about safe driving, people often become victims of road accidents. He said the lack of driving skills was the main cause of road accidents and awareness about it was the need of the hour.
He said many important works had been done under this campaign to make Haryana's roads safe for the common people. All students were made aware of road safety rules through various quiz competitions. In addition, necessary improvements were made in road engineering as per the requirement and the accountability of the department concerned was ensured. Also, an initiative was taken to provide prompt health facilities to accident victims immediately after the accident. The DGP added road safety knowledge centres and clubs were established in all schools, colleges, and universities. A road safety fund was established and arrangements were made to provide adequate funds to all interested institutions and departments. Not only this, driver training centres were also established in all cities and training was provided there.
Sharing the data, Kapur said under the campaign, over 14 lakh students participated in 2013, over 34 lakh in 2014, over 43 lakh in 2015, over 44 lakh in 2016, over 30 lakh in 2017 and over 35 lakh in 2018.
