Over 1,500 varieties of flowers bloom at state-level vasantotsav

The 10th two-day state-level ‘Vasantotsav 2024: Flower Exhibition and Flower Competition’ concluded at SD (PG) College here and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) won the overall trophy. The two-day flower exhibition was organised by the college’s Save Environment Society and National Service Scheme Unit. SD Education Society patron Roshan Lal Mittal inaugurated the event, while president Anoop Kumar and secretary Naresh Kumar Goyal were the guests of honour. College president Dinesh Goyal, vice-principal Rajeev Garg, general secretary Mahendra Aggarwal, treasurer Vishal Goyal and principal Anupam Arora felicitated the guests. Various schools, colleges, institutes and gardeners from different nurseries of the state took part in the exhibition.
Principal Arora said more than 60 varieties of flowers, including Acroclinium, Adenium, Antirrhinum, Aster, Begonia, Bonsai, Bougainvillea, Calendula, Centaurea, Sarsentia cotyleda, Chrysanthemum, Cineraria, Callianthus, etc, were on display during the two-day affair.
In the individual competitions, more than 600 participants and 15 institutions competed and displayed more than 1,500 varieties of flowers.
Various other competitions were also organised for students such as ‘selfie with flowers’, ‘rangoli-making’ and ‘hand and face painting events’. The objective of organising the event was to foster love and responsibility among the students for themselves and the environment.
