The rising unemployment, crime against women and farmers’ plight are among the major issues that are haunting people in the state.

This came to light when the Congress analysed the issues/suggestions submitted by people across the state to the party’s manifesto committee in the past some months.

BJP govt ‘deceived’ youth

Haryana has become an army of unemployed youth and the state is ranked No. 1 in the country in unemployment. The BJP government has deceived the educated youth in the name of providing jobs. It set up the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam to ruin the future of educated youth by giving jobs on a contractual basis.

The Congress had invited suggestions from people about burning issues of their area concerned and the state in order to incorporate them in the party’s manifesto with a solution plan for the Assembly polls. The party also organised different ‘Nyay chaupals’ for women, farmers, youth, SCs, BCs, minorities/slum dwellers, educationists, industrialists, sportspersons and elected representatives of panchayats and local bodies to know their issues and suggestions.

“Haryana has become an army of unemployed youth and the state was ranked No. 1 in the country in unemployment as the BJP government has worked to deceive educated youth in the name of providing jobs. It set up the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) to ruin the future of educated youth by giving jobs on contractual basis and that too through back-door entry,” said Congress’ Manifesto Committee head Geeta Bhukkal, who is also a Jhajjar MLA and former Education Minister.

She said a considerable number of educated youth have shared their pain with the Congress by sending emails, WhatsApp messages and postal letters. They had raised questions over frequent paper leaks, delay in announcing examination results, putting regular appointments on the back burner and making contractual recruitment without merit, she added.

“Unemployment is the root cause of pushing educated youth into a quagmire of drug and crime. Many people have also shared stories about how unemployed youth are getting trapped in illegal activities,” Bhukkal said.

She claimed that unemployment/under-employment is such a big issue that it was flagged by groups of youth before MP Deepender Hooda wherever he took out foot march under the ‘Haryana Maange Hisaab’ campaign. Even youth in large numbers also joined the campaign to support the Congress.

“The crime against women has become another major issue in the state as the law and order has collapsed badly under the BJP regime. Women are neither safe in public nor at work. On the one hand, our women are bringing laurels to the state and the nation by getting medals in the Olympics, on the other hand, the NCRB report describes Haryana as one of the unsafe states for women as the BJP government has failed to ensure safety of women. Through emails, many women have recalled the then Hooda government when criminals left the state due to fear of being eliminated,” said Bhukkal.

She said the Congress is serious towards women safety, hence the issue is being taken on priority. “The manifesto committee is chalking out plans to present an effective solution to all such problems. Our manifesto will represent the voice of all people of the state,” Bhukkal added.
