Open more lanes on Kundli flyover: District Magistrate to Delhi DCP
The district administration has asked the Delhi Police to remove barricades at Singhu border and open more lanes for commuters on the main flyover at Kundli on NH-44 for the smooth flow of vehicles as jams have become a source of air pollution.
The police had barricaded the area with cemented boulders on February 13 in view of the farmers' protest. In March, they opened a lane on either side to ease vehicular movement.
However, farmer organisations have again given a call for Delhi march on December 6.
Singhu border is the main entry to Delhi and thousands of vehicles ply through this border daily. Apart from this, a large number of industrial units are operational in Kundli, Rai, Nathupur and adjoining areas, where thousands of people are employed.
The farmers could not proceed to Singhu border as they were stopped by the Haryana Police at Shambhu border. After the situation normalised at Shambhu, the Delhi Police had, in February, opened the single lane on either side of the service lanes. After some days, the police also opened a lane on the flyover to traffic. However, massive jams are witnessed on the stretch every day.
The District Magistrate, Sonepat, in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer-North), Delhi, said rush at the main carriageway at Kundli was creating a massive jam on the Panipat-Delhi side.
“As GRAP stage 3 is already in enforce with effect from November 14, and we all are grappling to reduce the pollution, particularly emission from vehicles, it is requested that more lanes be opened on the main carriageway of NH-44, maintaining a fine balance between smooth movement of vehicles leading to lower emissions and pollution and maintenance of law and order by preventive measures,” the letter reads.
Sanjay Singla, president, Zila Vyapar Mandal, has also sought the removal of barricades from the Kundli flyover.
