Online betting racket busted, nine arrested in Gurugram
The Gurugram cyber police have raided an illegal call centre being run at a flat in a residential society of Sohna. Officials arrested nine involved in online betting racket, and seized 38 mobile phones, 25 bank account kits, 22 ATM cards and three laptops from their possession.
According to the police, they received information on Tuesday that some people were running an illegal call centre in Sohna. Acting on the tip-off, ACP (Cyber) Priyanshu Dewan formed a special team led by Sub-Inspector Sachin Kumar. The police raided the house, where they found the accused playing online games through an app using a laptop and mobile phones.
The accused were identified as Manish, Ajay, Toshan Kumar, Mohit Gera, Rakesh, Anmol Gilhotra and Sanyam Mehta, Bablu, and Sagar. An FIR was registered against the accused under Section 318(4) of the BNS, Gambling Act and IT Act at the Cyber Crime police station (West).
During interrogation, it was revealed that Sagar, who handled the operations, had employed the rest of the accused, who would make IDs and give them to people. They would then make people deposit money and play online games/bet through online apps.
“Sagar was the operator of the call centre that provided the bank accounts to commit fraud through online gaming. The accused had been running the centre for the last two months. In return for doing the work, the accused got a salary of around Rs 20,000 per month and also got 5 per cent commission. We are currently questioning the accused,” said ACP Dewan.
