On National Milk Day, bike rally reaches Karnal dairy institute
On National Milk Day, a bike rally organised by Amul-India made a grand arrival at the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI), Karnal.
The rally, which commenced from Jammu with 13 riders, highlighted the importance of milk and dairy farmers in strengthening India’s economy and health. The participants were welcomed at ICAR-NDRI by a gathering of students, faculty members and staff.
The event showcased the significance of dairy farming in India, paying tributes to the contributions of Dr Verghese Kurien, the father of White Revolution, whose birth anniversary is commemorated as the National Milk Day.
Dr Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-NDRI, addressed the audience and emphasised the transformative impact of dairy on rural livelihoods and nation-building.
Dr Singh, while speaking on the occasion, stated that milk was not just a nutritious food, it was a symbol of empowerment and self-reliance for millions of dairy farmers across India.
“This rally by Amul-India is a commendable effort to spread awareness about the importance of sustainability of milk production and processing, and to inspire the next generation to continue innovation in the dairy sector,” he said.
The bikers, led by a team of dairy enthusiasts, spread the message of unity and sustainability through the use of Bio CNG and building a circular economy to improve the lives of dairy farmers during their journey.
The rally served as a platform to connect farmers, researchers and consumers while spreading awareness about the advancements in the dairy sector.
After the programme at ICAR-NDRI, the riders resumed their journey towards Delhi via Rohtak.
