On hold civic projects likely to resume after new government takes over
Work on several projects sanctioned or approved by the outgoing state government is likely to be taken up after the formation of the new government. The cost of such projects is reported to be around Rs 2,500 crore.
Many projects which had been allocated funds a few weeks prior to the poll have been on hold in wake of the election notification and the code of conduct that had come into force in August this year. While the outgoing government had sanctioned a budget of several crores for various projects, the process of issuing or releasing tenders was on hold due to the engagement of officials in poll duties, said sources in the district administration. The prominent projects which await resumption of work include the renovation of the Nahar Singh International Cricket Stadium which requires an additional budget of several crores. The Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) had taken over the Rs 222 crore project last year.
The second major task that had been allocated to the FMDA had been the upgrading of the sewage system, cleaning of the main sewage lines and setting up of more sewage treatment plants (STP) at an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore. Though work on certain projects had been ongoing, the budget for some others was yet to be released. A budget of Rs 1,550 crore for the East-West Corridor project to provide signal free connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the city also awaits final sanctions, revealed sources.
The construction of new Ranneywells and tubewells under the drinking water augmentation scheme, laying or construction of roads, additional civic amenities and completion of half-built projects handed over to the FMDA also need additional budget approvals to the tune of over Rs 300 crore, it is believed.
Vinay Dhull, a senior official of the FMDA, said the final approval or release of funds of the projects already sanctioned or on hold is expected after the conclusion of the election process.
