Ambala, August 2
Olympics bronze medallist Sarabjot Singh and his coach Abhishek Rana were accorded a rousing welcome at Sarabjot’s native village Dheen in Ambala on Friday.
Sarabjot Singh (22) of Ambala has won a bronze in 10-m air pistol mixed team event with Manu Bhaker, at the Paris Olympics.
He was welcomed by the family and village residents amid bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets.
In the Asian Games also, Sarabjot had won a gold in 10-m air pistol men’s team event and a silver in the mixed team event.
Before starting the practice for the National Games later this year, the Olympics medalist wants to spend some time with his family.
Sarabjot said, “I will give the credit of my achievement to my family, coaches and the shooting federation. They have supported me throughout the journey. I always give my best whether it’s an international match or any domestic game. It is all about your mindset and dedication.”
He said, “We have been practising hard. I missed the individual medal, perhaps it was not my day. My coaches advised me to focus on the next game as I still had the chance of winning a medal. I have learnt a lot in the Olympics and my next target is to win a medal in the LA 2028 Olympics,” he said.
Sarabjot said, “I will spend some time with my family and enjoy the moment for the next few days. We have nationals later this year so I will resume training in October.”
His coach Abhishek Rana said, “We went there with high expectations as Sarabjot was performing very well at the international level and had even won a gold medal in the World Cup. The individual game didn’t go well but as a coach, I understand that sportspersons are under immense pressure. We will continue to work hard.”
