Olympic medallist Aman Sherawat accorded warm welcome in Jhajjar

Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Aman Sehrawat was accorded a warm welcome at various places en route to his native Birohar village in the district on Tuesday.

Accompanied by Dronacharya Awardee Satpal Pahlwan, Sehrawat reached Jhajjar in an open jeep from Delhi. Aman was welcomed with garlands and bouquets in Bahadurgarh town, Dabauda Kalan, Kablana and Jahajgarh villages.

“The love I am getting from people is overwhelming. It is motivating me to work harder to bring more laurels for the nation. My next target is winning gold medals in Asian Games-2026 and Los Angeles Olympics-2028,” said Aman while talking to mediapersons.

The 21-year-old, who is the youngest Indian wrestler to clinch an Olympic medal, said that he was quite confident about winning the medal in the Paris Olympics as his preparation was good for that. “Winning an Olympic medal was the dream of my late parents and I am glad that I have fulfilled it,” he said.

Replying to a question, Aman urged players to give their best in whichever sport they are participating in. “Give your 100 per cent in your sport. In the end, the result will be great,” he said.

Aman lost his parents over 10 years ago. His parents wanted to see him as an international wrestler who could make the nation proud by clinching a medal in the Olympic Games. One of his friends said Aman had struggled hard to fulfil his parents’ dream.

Earlier, Aman was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shakti Singh at Government Nehru PG College in Jhajjar. “Aman has brought glory not only to Jhajjar district but also the entire nation by winning a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics. This is a very big achievement. Indian players have won six medals in the Paris Olympics. Half of these medals have been won by the promising players of Jhajjar district,” he said.

ADC Saloni Sharma, DCP Logesh Kumar, Jhajjar SDM Ravindra Yadav, DIPRO Satish Kumar, District Youth Programme and Sports Officer Lalita Malik, college Principal Dalbir Singh, Senior Professor Surendra Kumar Punia along with department coaches, players and college students wished Aman a bright future and congratulated his family members and coach.

“It is every player’s dream to win a medal for the country and it feels very good to have achieved that,” Aman said on the occasion.
